What causes food allergy in adults and children ?

A food allergy is an immune system response to a certain food that the body mistakenly identifies as harmful. When a person with a food allergy consumes the food they are allergic to, their immune system releases antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE), which triggers the release of chemicals like histamine. These chemicals cause allergic symptoms, such as hives, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing etc.
